AWK Ground Testing carry out plate bearing tests to gather data - data which can then be analysed, interpreted and then used as a gauge for what a contractor can and cannot do on that respective site. The plate bearing tests involve an incremental increase in loads, from which the vertical deformation and strength characteristics of the soil, by assessing the force and the amount of settlement by a rigid plate under loading. We use plates of between 150mm, 300mm, 455mm and 610mm stratum. The size of the plate will depend on the material that's being analysed, as well as factors such as the particle size of the tested material or whether a CBR value is looking to be obtained or if a specific load is to be measured. The results of these analyses may determine what kind of road surface material would be ideal for that site. If unbound pavement material in situ is suitable for certification.
